Rogersville

Hawkins County

On November 11, 1863 a Confederate force led by the 27th Battalion Virginia Cavalry captured 100 prisoners at Rogersville.  Near Big Creek the 36th Battalion Virginia Cavalry, 8th Virginia Cavalry and the 21st Virginia Cavalry also engaged Union forces capturing and 294 prisoners along with wagons and ambulances.
