On September 30, 1864 a Union force including the 15th Kentucky Cavalry attacked a Confederate line along the Watauga River at Duvall’s Ford. Later in the day, the 15th Kentucky fell back towards Carter’s Station having lost 12 missing in action and 1 wounded.
