On November 14-15, 1863 Confederate forces of Lieut. Gen. James Longstreet crossed the Tennessee River at Huff’s Ferry. The Union Army of the Ohio (Maj. Gen. Ambrose Burnside) skirmished with the Confederate advance until ultimately engaging them at Campbell’s Station on the 16th .
