Preservation Plan – 2021

Team members recently joined consultant Joe Brent to discuss next steps in completing the battlefield assessments of more than 120 battle sites in Tennessee.  The 1993 Civil War Sites Advisory Commission listed these Tennessee sites, in addition to Tennessee’s 38 principal battlefields, as recommended for further study.  Joe is reviewing the assessments and determining for each site whether there is potential eligibility for listing on the national register.  After completing preliminary research for nearly all the sites, the all-volunteer planning team is now gathering additional data from each site and surrounding lands.  Several new volunteers have offered their assistance and will help the team captains complete their work.  With the preservation plan being the #1 goal for TCWPA in 2021, the team hopes to complete the final report by next summer.  The plan will be TCWPA’s blueprint for battlefield preservation in Tennessee.
