Into the Storm: Retracing the Tullahoma Campaign led by Historian Jim Ogden

In the summer of 1863, Middle Tennessee trembled under the weight of a campaign that would reshape the course of the Civil War. Rain hammered the ridgelines. Roads dissolved into mud. Armies maneuvered through mist‑shrouded gaps where every ridge, every fence line, every heartbeat mattered.

On April 25, you’re invited to step onto that very ground.

Join TCWPA for an unforgettable day as National Park Service Historian Jim Ogden leads an immersive exploration of the Tullahoma Campaign — a masterclass in strategy, deception, and determination. Few guides can conjure the past with the clarity and force that Jim brings to the field. Under his interpretation, landscapes speak, decisions sharpen, and the campaign’s drama unfolds in vivid detail.

A Campaign of Nerve and Genius

The Tullahoma Campaign is often overshadowed by larger battles, yet its significance is undeniable. Over nine relentless days, Union forces under Rosecrans outmaneuvered Bragg’s army, striking through the mountain gaps with precision and daring.

You’ll stand where:

– Wilder’s “Lightning Brigade” surged through Hoover’s Gap, Spencer rifles cracking through the rain.
– Mounted infantry clashed in the fierce struggle at Liberty Gap.
– Confederate forces reeled back toward Tullahoma, then over the mountains toward Chattanooga.

This was a campaign won not by sheer force, but by audacity, timing, and terrain — and you’ll see it all through the eyes of one of America’s foremost Civil War historians.
