James W. Danley Succeeds Steve McDaniel as President of TCWPA   printer  

Following the spring Annual membership meeting, the Board of Directors elected Colonel James W. Danley, U.S. Army, Retired, as TCWPA’s new president.  Col. Danley succeeds State Representative Steve McDaniel who served as a founding member of TCWPA and its President, 2004-2009.   In announcing President Danley, McDaniel applauded the selection, “Jim has been an outstanding Vice-President; his thoughtfulness, experience, and dedication will serve our mission to preserve Tennessee’s Civil Battlefields well.  I look forward to working with Jim and the Board in furthering our goals.”

Col. Danley succeeds State Rep. Steve McDaniel.After a 25-year Army Career Colonel Danley returned to Tennessee.  He joined TCWPA in 2005 and has served as TCWPA Vice President since 2006.   During his Army career, Col. Danley served as an infantry officer in command and staff positions, including assignments in the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions as well as the 8th Infantry division in Germany.  At his retirement, Col. Danley was on the staff of U.S. Central Command in Tampa, Florida.

Representative Steve McDaniel, as past president, will continue to work closely with TCWPA as a member of TCWPA’s Executive Advisory Board.

Looking forward to his term, President Danley acknowledges he has “big shoes to fill.”   Following the elections, Danley said, “I am excited and honored to have been elected and appreciate the Board’s confidence in me.  I am very much humbled, however, to follow Steve McDaniel and the tremendous quality and quantity of work he has done for preservation in Tennessee.  Steve has kept up the “fight” when others’ will and energy might have flagged and faltered.   I believe Steve views his dedication to preserving hallowed ground as his duty; and his is a high order of selfless service that very few ever achieve."
