Just the FAQs

Why order the Official Tennessee Civil War Sesquicentennial License plate?

Because you care about preservation. Because you care about ensuring that generations to come can experience a part of the past.

When you order the plate, you demonstrate your commitment to Tennessee’s commemoration of the Civil War Sesquicentennial, you help promote Tennessee’s rich heritage, you help fund Civil War battlefield preservation, and you support the Civil War Trails program in YOUR community.

My order can do all that? Yes.

Displaying the license plate can remind thousands of Tennesseans and people throughout the United States of the most transformational event in our nation’s history and honor those who fought and died in defense of their beliefs.

As for the dollars? TCWPA will receive $15.62 of the $35.00 fee – and those funds will support battlefield preservation and a portion of the proceeds will go to agencies or organizations in your county for the purchase or maintenance of the Civil War trails signs.   For more information about the Civil War Trails program, visit www.civilwartrails.org and watch for News updates on this web site.

How do I order the official Tennessee Civil War Sesquicentennial License Plate?

Fill out and submit the online form or print a form and send by regular mail to TCWPA.

When will we get the license plate?

TCWPA must receive 1,000 pledges and payment before the License plate will be produced – and we’ve got to do that before June, 2012. However we’re all anxious to have the plate on vehicles throughout Tennessee before then. As soon as we have 1,000 orders, the plate will be produced.

When do I pay for the license plate?

Send no money now. TCWPA will contact you when we have 1,000 pledges and ask for your payment at that time. You’ll be able to send a check by regular mail or make a secure online payment on our web site. We’ll install an online payment option when we reach 1,000 pledges.

Should I renew my registration when it comes due?

Yes – renew. When the license plate is produced, you will be notified to pick up your license plate at your local registration office. You will pay a new registration fee – minus the credit you have on your current year.

If I change my address, license plate registration number, or e-mail address, what should I do?

Fill out the online order form - but click on "update your order."  Or you can send information to TCWPA at our mail address or email info@tcwpa.org. This is important because it allows us to keep our records up-to-date and to contact you without delay.

Does the Tennessee specialty plate program include a plate with a handicap designation?

No, the program does not include a handicap designated plate.

Can I order a personalized specialty license plate?

Yes, but not yet.  As of August 1, 2011 we can no longer accept orders for specialty plates during the first order of 1000.   They will be available for ordering after the plate is produced and "on the road."    If you previously ordered a personalized plate your order will be honored - pending availability of the numbers/letters you requested.

I live out of state but would like a commemorative license plate. Is it available?

Regrets. The Tennessee specialty license plate program does not produce commemorative plates.
