The two photos below show the view from Winstead Hill looking
north. The first was taken around the turn of the century, some 35
years after the battle of Franklin which was fought November 30, 1864.

This more recent photograph of the same landscape shows
how difficult it would be to preserve the battlefield as it is today
 due to the extensive development on this hallowed ground.
