TCWPA'S NEXT THREE STAR BATTLEFIELD TOUR - November 6, 2010
Join TCWPA for a tour of Knoxville's remarkably well-preserved 1863 fortifications. Participants will visit privately owned sites - some newly identified remnants of Fort Higley, a long-forgotten military road and the coves and ridges where the little known Battle of Armstrong Hill pitted Confederate veterans of Gettysburg and Chickamauga against completely green troops of the 103rd Ohio. Learn about the Siege of Knoxville and Orlando Poe's brilliant defensive fortifications in this behind the scenes tour. Join archaeologist Dr. Joan Markel and Civil War documentary film maker Steve Dean in a fascinating look at the significant role Knoxville played in the fall of 1863.
Tour will begin Saturday morning at the Frank H. McClung Museum in downtown Knoxville and conclude by noon. Final time, locations and other events will be posted as plans are finalized.
Rain or shine, the tour will go! Weather comfortable, weather-protective clothing and good walking shoes. You'll be walking on unimproved trails and access roads. The tour will include walking on a moderate grade and through a woodland environment.
The events are free and open to the public however, participants must register by completing the online form below.
Tour Update, August 10, 2010: The good news? The online registration for the Knoxville Tour has been robust! The bad news? We are fast approaching our limit for the number of participants. We'll soon have to start a waiting list. At both the Davis Bridge and the Triune Three-Star Battlefield tours we were able to accommodate nearly all of those who were on the waiting list - so don't let a waiting list keep you from registering. We'll confirm with all of those who are presently on the list as we get closer to the tour date and at that time we will likely have some openings.

Spring 2011
BATTLEFIELD PRESERVATION SUMMIT
TCWPA will convene a statewide summit in Spring 2011 for the purpose of developing a collaborative plan for preserving Tennessee's Civil War battlefields. Historians, preservation specialists and other land protection specialists will join participants from across the state. Participants will have an opportunity to network with fellow battlefield preservationists, learn about the variety of tools for preservation, and offer their insights into how best to preserve Tennessee's battlefields. Click below for a detailed description of the planning to date.
The Summit is open to those who have a keen interest in and dedication to preserving Tennessee battlefields. While there is a limit to the number of participants for the workshop format, we hope to accommodate all those who are interested in being part of this effort. If you'd like to roll up your sleeves and help create the plan, please let us know by submitting the online form.
