TCWPA ANNOUNCES 2016 ANNUAL MEMBERS MEETING AND PRESERVATION TOUR

Join the Tennessee Civil War Preservation Association on May 14th for the 2016 Annual Members Meeting at the Fleming Center, adjacent to Carnton Plantation in Franklin, Tennessee.    The meeting will begin at 9:00 AM and adjourn by 10:00 AM.   Members will review the 2015 Annual Report, elect the 2016-2017 Board of Directors and recognize the 2016 Robert A. “Bob” Ragland award winner.    President Joe Smyth also will present the “President’s Partnership Award,” an award recognizing an individual from the Franklin community for outstanding contributions to Civil War battlefield preservation in Tennessee.

Following the meeting, Julian Bibb and Eric Jacobson of Franklin will guide a 2-hour “Preservation Tour” of the Franklin Battlefield.  With the focus on preservation efforts at Franklin, participants will visit 4-5 sites, once thought “lost,” that are now reclaimed, including a site, once home to a strip mall and pizza shops, that now reveals the foundation of the Carter Cotton Gin and trenches where Confederate forces ruptured the Federal line in hand-to-hand fighting.   The emphasis of the tour will be both how that reclamation came to be and how those lands now contribute to a more compelling understanding of the Battle of Franklin.  There is no fee for the tour however the number of tour participants is limited and

The Annual meeting and tour are open to the  public but pre-registration is required.   TCWPA members will receive priority for the tour.   To register, click here     We expect the tour to fill quickly so we recommend you register as soon as possible.  If the tour fills, we’ll keep a “waiting list.”

Tour Details:

*The tour will begin at 10 AM at the Fleming Center at the Carnton Plantation and conclude by no later than 12:30 PM.   Join TCWPA for their annual meeting at 9 AM or if you can’t be there at that time, plan to  arrive by 9:45 to sign in.

*The tour will go “rain or shine” so wear weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable walking shoes.

*The tour will involve only short walking distances at each site.

*Bottled water will be provided during the tour.
