TCWPA announces the next Three-Star Battlefield Tour on Saturday, November 1, 2014 in Chattanooga. Tour the “Narrows” of the Tennessee River, today known as the Tennessee River Gorge. Explore sites and stories of a small group of Alabama sharpshooters who, during the 1863 Siege of Chattanooga, fired upon the Union Army’s supply trains across the river. Their accurate fire closed a vital Union supply route and reduced the Army of the Cumberland to near starvation. Tour participants will visit seldom accessed, privately-owned sites on both sides of the river, including sites on Raccoon and Signal Mountains.
For those who want to make a day of it, a secondary tour to the Sequatchie Valley to look at Joe Wheeler’s Great Wagon Raid site will continue after the morning tour.
The tour is open to the public; there is no charge. Pre-registration is required. Watch for tour updates and registration info on this page.
